The scientific and medical information department was organized in 1976 to meet information needs of the institute. Its former heads included: К. E. Rudiak (1976-1993), М.R.Kostiuk (1993-1994), V.V.Omelchenko (1995-1996), І.Y. Medianyk (1996-1998)

Since 1995 the scientific and medical information department has worked to introduce computer technologies of scientific information search, use and processing.

An operational procedure has been developed to work in such computer network servers as “Pab Med”, “AVICENNA”, “MEDLINE”, “NIH”, which are used to obtain necessary information.

The Department is located in the 1st (administrative and laboratory) building of Romodanov Neurosurgery Institute (see Institute scheme).
