Biography of Professor Sebastien Froelich

1. Education and Career

Sebastien Froelich is a French neurosurgeon.

He heads the Department of Neurosurgery at Hôpital Lariboisière (Paris, France).

His specialization includes neuro-oncology, skull base surgery, microsurgery, and endoscopic techniques.

He has an extensive publication record — over 300–370 scientific papers in the field of neurosurgery.

His department is equipped with state-of-the-art surgical technology: microscope, endoscopy, neuronavigation, cortical stimulation, and intraoperative monitoring.

The department also has an intraoperative scanner (since 2019).

The department’s clinical activity includes: vascular pathologies, brain tumors (gliomas, meningiomas), pituitary surgery, epilepsy, spinal procedures, and craniovertebral junction disorders (e.g., Chiari malformation).

He has significant experience in awake surgery (operations performed while the patient is conscious, particularly in glioma cases), an important technique for preserving brain function.

He is widely recognized among European neurosurgeons, and his profile is available on the EANS (European Association of Neurosurgical Societies) website.

2. Scientific Contribution

He is the author of numerous studies on complex surgical approaches to skull base tumors such as meningiomas and chordomas.

His publications have a high scientific impact, with a large number of citations.

He also works on improving the safety of surgical approaches and refining techniques through operative protocols and surgeon training (laboratory research and educational programs).

In video interviews, he discusses innovative surgical approaches, training methods, and contemporary challenges in neurosurgery.

Professor Froelich’s collaboration with the Ukrainian neurosurgical community has spanned many years and includes participation in conferences, training programs, and professional exchanges. The conferral of the honorary title is a recognition of his significant contribution to the development of neurosurgery and his support of Ukrainian specialists.
