Romodanov Andrii Petrovych (11 November 1920 – 5 August 1993) was a world-renowned neurosurgeon, scientist, educator, and one of the founders of neurosurgery in Ukraine; Doctor of Medical Sciences (1963), Professor, Honored Scientist of the Ukrainian SSR (1964), Academician of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences (1974), Academician of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine (1993), Director of the Kyiv Research Institute of Neurosurgery (1964–1993), Laureate of the State Prize (1978), and Head of the Department of Neurosurgery (1986–1993). In 1993, the Neurosurgery Institute was named after Andrii Petrovych Romodanov. Academician Romodanov’s scientific interests included neuro-oncology, pediatric neurosurgery, traumatic brain injury, vascular neurosurgery, functional and restorative neurosurgery, and neurorehabilitation. Andrii Petrovych Romodanov is the founder of the Ukrainian neurosurgical scientific school. He authored more than 450 scientific works, including 24 monographs and 23 inventions, dedicated to neuro-oncology, cerebrovascular pathology, pediatric neurosurgery, neurotrauma, functional and restorative neurosurgery, and the development of the neurosurgical service in Ukraine. He trained 30 Doctors of Medical Sciences and 52 Candidates of Medical Sciences. For his diverse and fruitful contributions, A. P. Romodanov was awarded the title Hero of Socialist Labor and received 10 orders and 15 medals, including 4 military orders and 5 military medals. In the early years of Ukraine’s independence, he was awarded the Presidential Distinction of Ukraine. |
